ROCKETS’ OFF-SEASON TRAINING HIGHLIGHTS

This video highlights the numerous occasions that the Rockets’ players have been spotted this summer putting in work to improve and prepare for next season. Even Coach Ime gets involved in physical training as him and Fred VanVleet work with boxing trainer. Fred also has been seen training with Alperen Sengun in Turkey, while Amen Thompson works with the guard whisperer and Kevin Durant stays in shape with pick-up basketball and solo drills.

HAKEEM OLAJUWON HIGHLIGHTS

Olajuwon led the Rockets to the only 2 championships in franchise history and is most likely the greatest player to ever be a Rocket. He retired from the NBA in 2002, but he continues to contribute to the game of basketball as a trainer and has trained everyone from Alperen Sengun to LeBron James. Hakeem is also well respected in the Muslim community and known for his strong faith.

HAKEEM OLAJUWON HIGHLIGHTS PT. 2

Hakeem “The Dream” Olajuwon is known for winning championships in the mid 90s, but he was a very dominant force way before then. This video shows more of his highlights from the earlier years of his career. In addition to his hard work, intelligence, and approach to the game, his versatility and quickness set him apart from a lot of the Centers in the league and made him a legend and 1 of the greatest to ever play the game to those who are familiar with him.

STEVE FRANCIS HIGHLIGHTS

Francis was drafted 2nd overall in the 1999 NBA draft before winning Rookie Of The Year and going on to be a 3x All-Star. He averaged 18.1 PPG, 5.6 RPG, and 6.0 APG in his career. Throughout his life, Steve has struggled with many personal, physical, mental, and even legal problems. He has overcome them all, though, and is doing great to set a good example for his family, friends, and fans. This video attempts to tell a part of the story of Francis’ life and career.

CUTTINO MOBLEY HIGHLIGHTS

Mobley played for the Rockets from 1998 to 2004 and averaged 16.0 PPG, 3.9 RPG, and 2.7 APG while shooting 37.8% shooting from 3-point range. The backcourt of him and Steve Francis was incredible to watch as their games seemed to complement each other perfectly. He is also known for his philanthropy and the initiative he has taken with the youth to help them become successful in life by helping develop and have the right state of mind to contribute to them being a pro in life.

ALPEREN SENGUN HIGHLIGHTS

Ever since he was selected 16th overall in the 2021 NBA draft, Sengun has continually gotten better and shown how smart he is on the basketball court. He has great footwork and has the ability to create shots for himself or others. He averaged 19.1 PPG, 10.3 RPG, and 4.9 APG with 49.6% shooting last season. Even though he is only 22 years old, he proved himself to be reliable in the playoffs as well. Alperen Sengun was definitely meant for this.

AMEN THOMPSON HIGHLIGHTS

Amen was the 4th overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft and averaged 14.1 PPG, 8.2 RPG, and 3.8 APG in the 2024-2025 season. He has been named to the All-Defensive Team and All-Rookie Team. He is very athletic and is constantly improving. He is already a force to be reckoned with and will continue to be a huge factor on the court.

YAO MING HIGHLIGHTS

Yao Ming was drafted as the 1st pick in the 2002 NBA draft, after playing 5 years in the CBA for the Shanghai Sharks. He averaged 19 PPG and 9 RPG in his career, was named to the All-NBA team 5 times, was 8-time All-star, and was definitely a fan favorite in Houston. He was very smart and versatile. Once Steve Francis and Cuttino Mobley coached him into being more aggressive, he became even more of a factor than he was when he began. Although injuries ended his career after 9 years, he achieved great things and will always be remembered.

REED SHEPPARD HIGHLIGHTS

Reed Sheppard was drafted 3rd overall in the 2024 NBA draft. He has been playing in the G League for the Rio Grande Valley Vipers too but has shown his worth to the Rockets any time he has played in their games. He has been very reliable any time he has been called upon and is definitely a player that the Rockets plan to keep around.

RUSSELL WESTBROOK HIGHLIGHTS

He only played 1 season, but Russell Westbrook is definitely worthy of recognition. He is 1 of the great players of all time and averaged 27.2 PPG, 7.9 RPG, and 7.0 APG while he was with the Rockets. He requested a trade partly due to wanting to return to a role where he was the main ball-handler. Things didn’t work out with him and Harden playing together again as all had hoped, but he is still loved and respected by the Rockets organization.

SAM CASSELL HIGHLIGHTS

Cassell was drafted 24th overall by Rockets in 1993 NBA Draft and made immediate impact with his energy and scoring off the bench. He went on to play crucial role in 1994 and 1995 playoffs with his clutch shots to help Rockets win back-to-back championships. Though he only spent 3 seasons with Houston, he will always be remembered as a Rockets legend.

CLYDE DREXLER HIGHLIGHTS

Drexler was traded to Houston in 1995 as he reunited with his college teammate Hakeem Olajuwon and played a key role in them winning the championship. Over 4 seasons with Rockets, Clyde averaged 19 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists per game. The time that he spent playing with Rockets will be talked about for decades.

TRACY MCGRADY HIGHLIGHTS

T-mac was received by the Rockets in exchange for Steve Francis in 2004 and instantly became primary scorer alongside Yao Ming. He delivered some epic performances and was an All-Star 7 times during his time with Houston but unfortunately injuries plagued him during his time there and prevented them from making a deep playoff run. McGrady will still go down in history as 1 of the most electrifying players to ever play for Houston.

TARI EASON HIGHLIGHTS

Tari was drafted 17th by Rockets in 2022 NBA Draft and quickly earned reputation as a high-energy forward known for his defensive versatility and hustle. Throughout his early seasons, he became valuable piece off the bench with his rebounding, transition play, and relentless effort on both ends of court. Despite some injuries, Eason has established himself as part of the Rockets young core and embodies their gritty and hard-working identity.

JEFF GREEN HIGHLIGHTS

Green joined the Rockets in 2020 and instantly became a valuable veteran presence while providing scoring, versatility, and leadership on and off the court. He has expressed his intention to retire with the Rockets, so he is expected to continue to make an impact on the team while finishing out his career.

MARIO ELIE HIGHLIGHTS

Elie was a key role player for Rockets in the mid-1990s, known for his toughness, defense, and timely shooting. He played important part in helping Houston win back-to-back championships. His grit and clutch performances made him a fan favorite and an essential piece of the Rockets’ championship legacy.

If you weren’t watching the Houston Rockets during the years of Steve Francis, you definitely missed out. It was some of the most entertaining basketball that has ever been played. Fortunately, though, there are plenty of highlights to help us witness some of those plays again.
